Posted on 25 June 2009 by Couchy

At Optus Happy Place amidst much speculation Whirlpools Creator Simon Wright has announced there will indeed be a Whirlpool App coming.

He showed a slick looking preview version which supported  whims via push notification and kept track of unread whims across the online version of Whirlpool and the iPhone. It will also feature a news section and the forums.

In broader terms he talked about how he would like to see the quality of discussion improve and that he considers the site under moderated overall.

He also showed off his new Lingopal application.

It’s now 3GS without a space

Posted on 24 June 2009 by Katie

Rumor has it that Apple has changed the spelling of their newest iPhone just days after its release.

Following some controversy over the initial spelling which was 3G S, Apple has now changed its material to fit the new spelling 3GS. Not a big deal, but makes you wonder what was the reason behind this sudden and silent change. Is it for legal purposes or for the name to be more search engine optimized?

What do you think is the reason behind this change?

Firemint’s Real Racing Game

Posted on 22 June 2009 by Katie

For anyone who enjoys a good game on the go, Firemint’s Real Racing is now available for the iPhone and iPod touch. The people at Firemint are behind mobile games such as Need for Speed: Most Wanted, The Fast and the Furious: Fugitive and FIA World Rally Championships.

This game has been praised for it’s attention to detail and ability to act as a simulator. It features 36 cars, 12 tracks and five different game modes. Steering is controlled depending on preference, via tilt or touch. Other than the cool graphics it can also show up to six cars on the screen at once. Another great feature is the ability to interact with other players by posting playbacks directly on YouTube from the phone.

Have any of you played this game?

Foursquare may be the next Twitter. This location based social networking application, was initially rejected  by Apple but after a second submission by its founder, Dennis Crowley, it is now available for your iPhone.

It comes with an innovative design which allows users to interact with friends while discovering their city. You get points and badges for special achievements by checking in with the application wherever you go which includes: restaurants, bars and nightclubs. For now the database only extends to the U.S. and the 12 larger metropolitan areas like  Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Austin, Boston, New York, San Francisco and LA.
