“1. Get an SSH program like putty for windows.
2. SSH to your iPhone. (If you haven’t done that before it may take a while, and after that there might come a warning about a key fingerprint. You can just accept that). Login using username "root" and password "alpine". (this is the default password)
3. There’s a few commands you have to execute, best is to just copy them:
rm /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.syslog.plist
chown mobile /private/var/mobile/Library/LockBackground.jpg
chmod 666 /private/var/mobile/Library/LockBackground.jpg
mv /private/var/mobile/Documents/LockBackground.backup.jpg /private/var/mobile/Library/LockBackground.jpg
4. That’s everything to remove my stuff. Now there’s one command left to make sure this won’t happen again! Again in putty or any ssh client type: "passwd". You’ll then be asked for a new password, you can change this into anything you want. The safer the better of course (:

The reason you have to change this password is that it’s default is alpine at ALL iPhones. So if anyone knows that (and all hackers do) they can access your iPhone. Now you’ve changed it this isn’t possible anymore!

Jailbroken iPhone hackers

iPhone users who have jailbroken their iPhones are starting to find out all the protection was for something after all! There have been several viruses seen in the wild. From rick rolling your wallpaper to charging you money to fix your iPhone!

Everyone loves a good Rick Roll (not)!

Note this worm can only infect your phone if you have left the default ‘alpine’ password, so is fairly low security risk. Created by Australian hacker ‘ikee’.

All your iPhones are belong to us

Created by a Dutch hacker this hack will display a message on your iPhone and direct you to doiop.com/iHacked where you were prompted for to make a 5 euro payment via Paypal. Apparently he later added the fix to the site for free after his Paypal was shutdown. A recent check of the site reveals http://doiop.com/ (a url shortener) have removed the shortcut for “SPAM, PHISHING, AND/OR ABUSE”. You can now access the fix for free at http://mr09.fileave.com/

Both these hacks exploit the default password, so if you have jailbroken your iPhone we strongly suggest you change the SSH password if you haven’t already. Of course if you haven’t modified your iPhone you have nothing to worry about in either case.

Using Ipod Shuffle with iTunes and Windows 7

Last week we showed you how to get Windows 7 running on your Mac, but iTunes won’t be able to sync your shuffle. This is a solution both for those with Windows 7 installed on Mac and PC. To fix the problem you will have to work through the following steps.

If your Shuffle is connected to your Mac/PC then disconnect it, close iTunes.
Close ”ITunesHelper.exe” in the windows task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL).
Download Sharepod
Reconnect the iPod Shuffle and start Sharepod, you should now be able to see your iPod.
With Sharepod still open start iTunes.
Your iPod should be visible in iTunes, select options and uncheck iTunes autostart, check hard drive usage.
Accept changes and close iTunes, do not eject your iPod using the iTunes interface.
Close Sharepod and disconnect your Shuffle before you restart you Mac/PC.

Thats it your iTunes will now be able to place all your podcasts and music on your shuffle just like normal. You will no longer need Sharepod so feel free to uninstall it.

Running Mac OSX on a Netbook the lowdown

Apple has yet to enter the Netbook space, no doubt they have something in the works but users not content to wait have taken things into their own hands. Depending on what Netbook you have you may have to sacrifice some functionality but overall some like the HP Mini 1000 or a Dell Mini 9/Vostro A90 are quite comprehensive in their support of OSX.

Installing on non Mac hardware likely infringes Apple’s end user license agreement so don’t expect any official support. Check out this compatibility chart to see what your Netbook can do.

Running Windows 7 on Mac installation Guide

A few requirements

An up to date Mac and preferably an up to date Time Machine backup.
Windows 7 on DVD, get it here (available until August 20,2009, although can be installed after).
8GB of space although I would recommend about 25 so you have some room to play with.

Lets get stuck in

Restart your Mac and close any apps that automatically start.
Open Boot Camp Assistant via finder and click continue at the intro screen.
At this stage choose how much space you want to give your new OS, as mentioned above around 25GB is good, although feel free to choose more or less if you know how much you will need. Once your happy click partition.
Insert your Windows 7 DVD and click the option to Start Installation.
Once your Mac restarts you will have to select which partition to install on. Select the one named Bootcamp you don’t want to accidentally choose the wrong one so pay close attention.
Choose drive options and “Format” press ok when prompted.
Once Windows 7 has installed it will reboot and you will need to take the DVD out.
Your nearly done just select your language etc and finish the installation, connect to the internet and Windows will download the latest updates and a video card driver, yep after this its time for another reboot.
All done your ready to go, depending on you Mac hardware you may have to look at getting your sound drivers setup. Just hold option when you turn your Mac on to choose Windows 7 or OSX.
