iPhone vs Droid

Posted on 15 November 2009 by Couchy

We have recently seen wave of activity coming from the Motorolla Droid camp aimed at the Apple iPhone, more accurately aimed at Verizon rival network AT&T.

Since our Google vs Apple article proved so popular we thought we would give you a roundup of all the punches thrown so far.

Ooohhh. I get to be third.

    Geography

I have Verizon service. AT&T service isn’t even available where I live. I do own a 32 GB 2nd Gen iPod touch, and am a have newly purchased a Droid.

    Cost

I ended up getting the droid with my new every two for $149. On my I pod touch, $399 plus the service plan from Best Buy since Apple for some reason can’t stand behind their product for more the 90 days. (Is it just me, does anyone else think that is some type of business to consumer profiteering plan?)

My droid however, is insured for 5.95 per month, and has a 1-year replacement warranty. Any manufacturer defects, and Verizon will replace it with a working one.

The droid feels a lot stronger and durable then the ipod touch. I ended up buying an water proof otter box the the ipod. I purchased a Zagg screen cover for the droid for $22.

    32 GB iPod Touch $519
    16 GB Droid $172

    Functionality

So far, the I’ve only found one thing that the iPod can do that the droid can’t. With the iPod, when browsing a web page, you can zoom by double clicking OR pressing two fingers down, and bringing them closer or further away from each other. The droid does will only zoom with the double click, and then bring up a +- display to allow to adjust to your liking.

iTouch iPhone – * No Camera * Huge set back with all the bar code stuff the droid can do.

I have a dual G5, with Leopard installed. Both ipod Touch and droid can control / brose itunes remotely, and provide keyboard/mouse functionality via AirMouse / RemoteDroid. Other then that, I don’t really use any of the other apps that much.

Awesome post. I don’t suppose you’d be against it if I added your website to my link exchange directory?
